Lee and the Night Sky is made up of three California natives who met in Eugene, Oregon three years ago, hoping to find some musical community in town. Lee Takasugi, Jeff Davis and Cris Cordero began sharing their music with one another, and soon joined up to create an intriguing blend of one another’s influences: part rock & edge, part pop with memorable melodies, and part jazz with some color chords. With Lee on keys as the main songwriter and singer, it’s like Tori Amos shares a cab with Chrissie Hynde and has tea with Nina Simone:at times intense, many times vulnerable, sometimes playful, but always soulful. Lee and the Night Sky’s sound isn’t typical to the area, but they offer a sound filled with stories that all can relate to: stories of grief, loss, purpose, parenting, culture/identity, past mistakes, love bungles, zombies, the chaos & injustice of our present world, spiritual growth, and the immense beauty beyond what the eyes can see.
